Ballon Angioplasty Successfully saved a Female Leg from Amputation

A female Saudi patient 75yrs, presented to
the ER by picture of acute on top of chronic Rt. lower limb ischemia. Patient is
diabetics and has a history of claudication pain of 10months duration, few hours
ago patient experienced acute severe pain at Rt. lower limb associated with
coldness and decrease motor power.
On Examination:
Absent all peripheral pulsation at Rt. lower
limb with monophasic Doppler flow Coldness and pallor of Rt. foot and leg Urgent
MRA was asked for the patient and revealed complete obstruction of Rt. common
iliac artery from its beginning So, patient transferred to operating room
urgently, where Rt. femoral thrombectomy was done under local anaesthesia,
followed by intra-operative angiogram which revealed short segment obstruction
at the beginning of Rt. common iliac artery. So, balloon angioplasty
successfully dilated this obstruction with regularizing of normal flow at Rt.
lower limb arterial tree. Patient passed good post operative period and
regaining of Rt. pedal pulsations and patient discharged from hospital in good
state, walking on her limbs normally.
