Successful 1st case of microsurgical re-implantation of an amputated finger at SGH-Medina

At 9th of November, 2004, 26th of Ramadan, 1425, a 34 years old lady with a crush and avulsion total amputation of R index finger was referred to the ER after 5 hours warm ischemia time. She was examined by Dr. Mohamed Fathi, Consultant of Plastic, Burns, Hand, and Microsurgery. After fulfilling the necessary investigations and consent, an urgent trial of microsurgical re-implantation has been done which lasted for several hours. Although the type of amputation was very difficult to reconstruct and the relatively long warm ischemia time, the surgery was successful. The patient stayed in the hospital for 10 days post operatively and discharged in a very good condition for OPD follow up.
