A successful delivery of pre-mature female baby, 6 months gestation, in SGH Sana a

A medical team headed by Dr. Nabil Bassouni Shehata – Pediatrics and Newborn Department Head, Dr. Hayam Mohamed Moussa, Pediatrics Specialist and Dr. Mirvat Mohamed Osman, Pediatrics Specialist, managed to save the life of a newborn who’s mother was suffering from deep coma resulted from cancer spreading in her liver, brain and bones as secondaries of breast cancer. After finishing all necessary investigations, the consultants agreed to end pregnancy in order to treat the mother with chemotherapy. Accordingly, an urgent caesarian section done and a female baby weighting 800 gm was born, admitted to NICU where she was mechanically ventilated, given the necessary medicines for lung maturity.
After one month in NICU, the baby was discharged in a good general condition without any complications and her weight reached 1700 gm. This case consider the third case weighting under 900 gm managed successfully in the hospital. This is due to the availability of the most advanced mechanical ventilators and medications necessary for lungs maturity and the qualified medical team dealing with such critical cases.
